Friendly Pirahnas

I donated a party package of crayon rolls to my daughter's preschool auction. The winning bidder selected this super cute fabric for her son's pool party!

Babywearing is for dolls, too!

I sewed up a dolly mai tei for one of Stella's friends as a birthday gift. There are lots of patterns out there but I used the one found at Documenting Delight: http://www.documentingdelight.com/2012/10/11/how-to-sew-a-doll-carrier/

Stella and I teamed up to make photo instructions to include in the gift!

Slobber Monkey

I sewed a bib for the first time, even though I'm on my third (and last!) kid here. My girls never wore bibs--they just didn't drool much. The little guy, on the other hand, is one slobbery dude. This bib from Heather Bailey, aptly named Slobber Monkey, was a breeze to stitch up, though I'm still working on sewing a curve evenly. *sigh* You can find the pattern here: http://heatherbailey.typepad.com/links/slobber-monkey-baby-bib-pattern.html

{Fabric: Vroom by Robert Kaufman, and the bib is backed with yellow terry cloth}

Crayon Rolls Go To The Doctor!

My friend Lauren sent me this great picture of cutie pie Dylan occupying herself while waiting for the doctor! I just had to share. What a great idea. Thanks, Lauren!

Black and Orange Scrap Buster

Tomorrow is Black and Orange Day for the Kindergartners. Would you believe that my daughter owns nothing orange and approximately one black t-shirt? After forgetting to borrow a shirt from my niece, and realizing that I was not only too tired to go to the mall but that I also didn't feel like spending any money, I searched through my stash until I found this fabric leftover from crayon rolls that I made last year! So, tomorrow, she'll wear her one black t-shirt and borrow black leggings from her younger sister, and rock this fun skirt.

The Littlest Pan.

My latest project, for a little guy I adore.

Based on a tutorial found here: http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2009/10/peter-pan-costume.html
I didn't make too many changes, except to make the neckline bigger so the tunic would slip over his head, instead of adding velcro closures to the back.

What Do You See?

I bought this fabric a long time ago, at the wonderful Eric Carle Children's Book Museum in Amherst, MA. How could I resist? I've been holding onto it for four years, not sure what to do with it.
A special little boy just turned one and in looking through my stash for boy fabric with which to make a pair of pants, I rediscovered this Brown Bear, Brown Bear panel. I quickly ditched the pants idea and decided to make a pillow. I'm digging deep into my memory bank back to when I was 8 or 9, and my new stepmother decided to teach my sisters and I how to sew a pillow, to guide me in making this one. The older I get, the more I discover how much I learned in childhood, outside of school, from people that fate brought into my life.
